# Upgrade, downgrade, or switch plans

> Move between Free, Learner, and Courses, and change monthly vs yearly billing.

Plan changes start on [Pricing](https://app.vocabmonster.com/pricing) or [Account → Billing](https://app.vocabmonster.com/account#billing). Stripe handles payment. Vocab Monster does not store full card numbers or CVCs.

**1. Review the plan you want**

Open Pricing and choose monthly or yearly. Yearly is 20% off the monthly rate. Compare limits on [Plans and limits](/help/account/plans-and-limits.md).

**2. Upgrade from Free**

Choose Learner or Courses and complete Stripe Checkout. When payment succeeds, you return to Home. If checkout thinks you already have paid access, you are sent to Account → Billing instead of paying twice.

**3. Manage an existing paid plan**

On Billing, choose **Manage Billing** to open the Stripe customer portal. Use it for payment method, invoices, and portal-supported plan changes. To stop renewing, see [Cancel a subscription](/help/account/cancel-a-subscription.md). Access continues through the current period end.

> Downgrading or cancelling does not delete your library. If a Free limit would be exceeded after a paid plan ends, new saves can be blocked until you are under the Free caps. Existing words stay. See [What happens at a plan limit](/help/account/what-happens-at-a-plan-limit.md).
